Please consider that a significant amount of men will change their mind about their desires to have children within a number of years after their vasectomy. Reasons for this include death of a spouse, death of a child, divorce, separation or just changing their minds. That is why we encourage everyone to consider the idea of sperm storage. Sperm can be cryogenically frozen and preserved for years, which provides a insurance policy for the future. No one ever thinks that they will be the one to change their mind.

We are currently aware of two facilities in the lower mainland that can provide sperm storage:

Genesis Fertility Centre (604) 879-3032
UBC Centre for Reproductive Health (604)875-2445

When you contact these centers, they may ask you for a physician referral as part of the sperm storage process. Please be advised that we will not provide referrals or interpretation of your results. This should be done through your family doctors office.

Questions regarding sperm storage cannot be answered by the staff at Pollock Clinics, all questions and inquires regarding sperm storage can be directed to the facilities that offer this service.

Some personal circumstances that men need to carefully consider before choosing to have a vasectomy:

  • Age - Are you young and have no children?
  • Personal Stress - Do you think you might be making a hasty decision at a stressful time?
  • External Pressure - Do you feel pressured into the decision by someone or by circumstances?
  • Relationship Stability - Do you frequently question the stability of your relationship?

Permanent contraception will not likely help you resolve problems you experience in any of these areas.

If you have decided that no matter what the future brings you will not want any more children, then vasectomy is a very reasonable consideration for you.
